Raisin Pie Recipe – 2 crust
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups raisins
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 pie crusts
Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Add raisins and then water, mix. Pour into a lined pie plate. Place top crust on and slit to allow steam to escape. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
Note: The original recipe instructs the baker to place the pie in a “moderate” oven for 45 to 50 minutes. In the 1930’s most farm wives were baking in a wood-fired cast iron cookstove and through experience learned how to bank the fire in the stove to achieve a “moderate” baking temperature.
This pie is very well suited to using a pie bird to release steam during the baking process instead of slitting the crust. Also makes for a fun presentation.
